SME Internationalization – Individual Projects
Overview
This call aims to support business capacity-building operations focused on the internationalisation of business models, through the adoption of more advanced business strategies that enhance integration into global value chains.
This call places a strong emphasis on operations aimed at producing tradable and internationalisable goods and services, within broader production chains and value chains that generate higher added value. Supported investments should contribute to strengthening the export orientation and external competitiveness of the Portuguese economy.

Eligible Expenditure
The following costs are eligible under this call:
- Salary costs related to the recruitment of qualified human resources, including base salary and mandatory employer social security contributions (daily allowances are not eligible);
- Costs incurred through participation in international trade fairs and exhibitions, including space rental, stand construction and operation;
Specialised consultancy services provided by external consultants, provided that such services are not continuous or periodic in nature and are not related to the normal operation of the beneficiaries, namely: Marketing campaigns in foreign markets;
- Certification of products, processes or services;
- Design and registration of new brands;
- Hosting and subscription of applications, access to electronic platforms, or inclusion in directories and search engines;
- Internationalisation promotion activities, including market prospection, client acquisition and promotional actions carried out in external markets;
- Integration of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles within companies, including services related to audit processes and the certification of systems, services and products in the environmental domain, such as the EU Ecolabel and the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS);
- Costs related to the intervention of certified accountants or statutory auditors for the validation of expenditure in payment requests.
Eligible Actions
Support may be granted to SME operations aimed at the internationalisation of business models through actions such as:
- Knowledge acquisition, market prospection and presence in foreign markets;
- International marketing;
- Online presence and e-commerce;
- International brand creation and promotion;
- Organisational innovation related to commercial practices or external relations;
- Quality and certification requirements specific to foreign markets.
Nature and Aid Intensity
Support is granted in the form of a non-repayable grant, calculated by applying the following funding rates to eligible expenditure:
- 40% for exporting companies (international turnover equal to or exceeding €200,000);
- 50% for new exporters (international turnover below €200,000).
The maximum grant per operation is:
€300,000 for exporting companies, except for investments located in the NUTS II Algarve region;
€150,000 for new exporters, except for investments located in the NUTS II Algarve region.
